Launching Soon: Our New Domestic Retrofit Training Course at RSA
We are thrilled to announce that we will be launching our new Introduction to Construction with Domestic Retrofit programme on 21 November at our Rotherham Skills Academy (RSA).
Construction Skills People, which forms part of the Skills People Group, are a training provider based in Chesterfield but operating five construction skills academies in Rotherham, Sheffield, Nottingham, Worksop and Derby. In 2021, we were successful in being awarded an Adult Education Budget (AEB) contract by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), to deliver funded programmes to the unemployed (Lot 1) and to employed learners who are resident in South Yorkshire.
During the academic year 2021/22, we engaged with 135 unemployed learners and delivered a range of programmes in construction to support individuals progressing into a career in the construction sector or undertaking further learning with stakeholders such as the RNN. Approximately 60% of learners progressed into employment or further learning. Through our links with employers and trade organisations, as well as feedback from Rotherham MBC and Sheffield MBC, we have been able to develop programmes to meet the current and future requirements of the industry.
Subsequently, we are launching our Introduction to Construction with Domestic Retrofit programme. The aim of the course is to provide unemployed people with the entry level skills to secure employment in construction sector with the knowledge an understanding of climate change and the need to “retrofit” fit domestic properties to maximise energy efficiency and ultimately cost savings.
The two-week fully funded course will cover:
Highfield Level 1 Certificate in an Introduction to Construction
Focusing specifically on the principles of Health & Safety relevant to the Construction Industry and what working in the Construction Industry entails to promote individuals in their ambitions within the sector.
NOCN Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retrofit
The course provides support in the principles such as the focus on retrofitting homes that not only cuts carbon emissions, it also makes it cheaper to heat our homes and overcomes issues around poor ventilation and damp. This helps lift people out of fuel poverty and reduces health problems associated with cold homes.
NCFE L2 Understanding Climate Change and Environmental Awareness
This qualification covers many aspects of environmental awareness including climate change, sustainability, the duties within construction, resource efficiency and waste management, all of which as essential to promoting an industry renowned for its environmental impact.
Pearson Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment
Learners develop introductory skills in health and safety in the construction industry and more about the health and safety issues related to different occupations within the sector through the achievement of a nationally recognised Level 1 qualification required for the acquisition of the CITB Green CSCS card.
