A Week of Worksop Skills Academy - Day 4

While we were at Worksop Skills Academy, we caught up with one of our longtime learners, Robyn Nelthorpe, who we spoke to initially back in early August.

After discovering how much she enjoyed bricklaying at Rotherham Skills Academy on the multi-trade course. Robyn went back to Worksop Skills Academy to undertake our new 4-week Level 2 Skills Bootcamp in Bricklaying course and loved it!

Robyn was then supposed to progress onto the Skills Bootcamp in Painting and Decorating programme, but was unable to attend after falling unwell. However, she's currently undertaking our Skills Bootcamp in Plastering course and is really enjoying the physical aspect of this programme. 

Robyn told us: "I want to understand as much about home improvement as possible, which is why I've been continuing my journey with the academies. When I finally leave here [she laughs] I want to get even more experience working as a site labourer, where I can be hands on doing lots of varied work.

Eventually, I would love to go into home improvement on a self-employed basis. There has been so much scope for expanding my skillset at the Worksop and Rotherham academies, and I've had so much fun learning. They have been behind me all the way [the tutors] and I'd recommend this type learning to anyone that's looking to begin a new career working with their hands, or on a construction site. It's changed my life and my career."

Another incredible learner. We think that any construction company would be lucky to have Robyn on their books, and we wish her a wealth of success in all her work and personal endeavours.

Success Story: Skills Academy Learners Excel on CORE Special Projects Site in Barnsley

Recently, the Marketing and Employer Engagement team, Michelle Reece and Richard Trigg, respectively, alongside the Core Special Projects team, celebrated a significant milestone. Three of our dedicated Skills Academy learners have joined the CORE Special Projects Ltd team on their new site works in Barnsley. This exciting project involves constructing new roundabouts on Higham Common Road and Barugh Green Road, which will provide northern and southern access to the new proposed mixed-use development. Meeting Martin Burton: The Experienced Supervisor Upon arrival at the site, we were greeted by Martin Burton, Supervisor at CORE Special Projects Ltd. Skills Academies Christmas Challenge Countdown Calendar

Christmas is almost here, and the excitement is growing in our academies as we stretch and challenge our learners to design something spectacular for this year's Academy Christmas Challenge!  Using all the theoretical and practical learning from the skills training programmes that our learners are progressing on, this exercise will enable them to further enhance their trade, teamwork, and personal skills, whilst allowing them to produce something they are immensely proud of. We'll be posting teaser snippets of the progress of each academies project, concentrating on one academy per day, without giving too much away, and when their challenge is complete, we'll be running an internal vote and revealing the results from last place through to first place on the last five days of countdown.
