Building Futures: Our Partnership with Greater Manchester Construction Training Ltd

Introduction:

Yesterday, our Marketing and Operations team had the pleasure of meeting with Ian Eardley, Brad Daniel, and Nicky Hough of Greater Manchester Construction Training Ltd (GMCT). This inspiring visit highlighted the remarkable success of our new Skills Bootcamps in Civil Engineering and Groundworks programme, tailored to support the unemployed within Greater Manchester.

About GMCT:

Founded in 2015, GMCT has been a beacon of excellence in providing training and health and safety advice for the construction, civil engineering, and demolition industries. Serving prestigious clients like Westbourne Civil Engineering, CS (Civils & Groundworks) Ltd, and PLP Construction Ltd, GMCT is committed to upskilling the workforce with high-quality training.

The Skills Bootcamps Programme:

Launched in June at the Middleton site, our Skills Bootcamps in Civil Engineering and Groundworks programme has been met with enthusiasm and success. The training covers a range of critical skills, including:

  • Touch Screen Test and Theory Test: Participants must pass both, with verbal answers accepted if necessary.
  • Practical Roller Dumper Test: This includes restart checks, driving manoeuvres, hill starts, and navigating through cones.
  • Marshall Course: Offered at the beginning or end of the programme to ensure smooth operations.

Success Stories:

During our visit, we spoke with some of the participants who shared their experiences:

  • Ramsey Ahle: "I’ve never driven anything before, but they have taught me well. I want to get into construction generally. Jacob is a good trainer. We go through all safety checks and pre-op checks. It's about general knowledge and common sense. I would recommend it to others. I enjoyed it."
  • Daniel Alem: "I’ve been unemployed for over a year and had done labouring in the past. I want to get as much stuff behind me as possible. Construction is the type of work I want to do."

Their stories are a testament to the transformative power of the programme, which not only provides practical skills but also boosts confidence and career prospects.

Impact and Future Prospects:

With 25 participants already on the programme and over 100 expressions of interest for the upcoming enrolment periods, we are thrilled with the success of this initiative. Our collaboration with GMCT ensures that we are providing top-tier training that meets industry standards and prepares participants for rewarding careers in construction.

Conclusion:

The partnership with GMCT has been a tremendous success, offering unemployed individuals in Greater Manchester a pathway to stable and fulfilling careers in the construction industry. We are proud of the impact we are making and look forward to continuing this journey of growth and development.
